Santa Claus is coming to town, and this time he’s bringing three movies’ worth of mayhem. Imprint Films is collecting Silent Night, Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out!, Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation, and Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker in a limited-edition Blu-ray hardbox. The three-disc set is strictly limited to 1,500 copies, with pre-orders opening December 1 ahead of its January 20, 2027 release.
That puts the collection just a little too late for Christmas 2026, but horror fans will have another reason to keep the holiday season going into the new year. The set brings together three sequels that took the franchise in some pretty unusual directions after the original 1984 Silent Night, Deadly Night made headlines for its murderous-Santa premise.
The first film drew protests from people who objected to its portrayal of Santa Claus as a killer, helping turn the movie into one of the more notorious holiday horror releases of the decade. Its follow-ups didn’t all stick to that same formula.
First up is Silent Night, Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out! (1989), directed by Monte Hellman. Bill Moseley stars as Ricky Caldwell, the Christmas-obsessed killer who awakens from a coma and begins stalking a blind teenager with psychic abilities. The cast also includes Richard Beymer and Eric Da Re, who would appear in Twin Peaks just months later, along with future Mulholland Drive star Laura Harring. It’s a curious entry in the series, trading some of the earlier films’ more direct slasher elements for a stranger story involving Ricky’s connection to the young woman.
The fourth installment, Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation (1990), takes an even bigger detour. Directed by Brian Yuzna, the film follows a journalist who becomes involved with a group of witches devoted to Lilith and preparing for a sacrificial ritual. The movie also features special effects by Screaming Mad George, the Japanese artist whose surreal creature work has made him a familiar name among fans of cult horror. Initiation is often singled out as one of the franchise’s more unusual installments, with its witchcraft, grotesque imagery, and decidedly different approach to Christmas horror.
Then there’s Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker (1991), directed by Martin Kitrosser. Mickey Rooney stars as Joe Petto, an elderly toy maker whose creations turn out to be considerably more dangerous than anything you’d find under the tree at your local department store. The film shifts the threat from a killer in a Santa suit to murderous toys, giving the franchise another bizarre holiday nightmare to add to its collection.
The three films originally arrived during the franchise’s direct-to-video period, and their reception was hardly uniform. Better Watch Out! received largely negative reviews, while Initiation found some appreciation for its imaginative effects and strange visual approach. The Toy Maker also developed defenders among horror fans who enjoy its killer-toy premise and offbeat personality. They may not have made the same cultural splash as the 1984 original, but each sequel found its own way to make Christmas a little less comfortable.
Imprint’s new collection will present all three features in 1080p high definition with a 1.33:1 aspect ratio and English LPCM 2.0 Stereo audio. Each film will also have an audio commentary, with additional interviews featuring cast and crew members including Bill Moseley, Clint Howard, and Screaming Mad George.
The announcement also arrives shortly after we covered the upcoming Silent Night, Deadly Night: The Novelization, based on Mike P. Nelson’s 2025 reboot and written by splatterpunk author Shane McKenzie. That book arrives November 24, giving fans another bloody Christmas present before the year is out.
The Silent Night, Deadly Night 3–5 Limited Edition Blu-ray Hardbox is scheduled for January 20, 2027. Pre-orders open December 1 through Via Vision Entertainment, and with only 1,500 copies being produced, collectors will want to keep an eye on the official store.
