Sauron is finally putting the ring on and Middle-earth is about to pay the price.
Prime Video has released the first trailer for the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, offering a look at Sauron’s growing power as the series moves closer to the events that will shape the future of Middle-earth. The new footage puts the Dark Lord and the creation of the One Ring at the center of the story, with his armies preparing for a devastating war.
After spending much of the first two seasons manipulating the people of Middle-earth, Sauron is now taking a more direct approach to his conquest. The trailer shows him embracing his role as the Dark Lord, with the One Ring becoming the key to controlling the other Rings of Power and bringing the free peoples of Middle-earth under his rule.
The third season picks up several years after the events of Season 2, with the War of the Elves and Sauron already underway. Sauron’s forces are growing stronger, and the conflict is spreading across Middle-earth as the Elves and their allies struggle to contain his ambitions.
The official Season 3 synopsis places Sauron’s next move at the center of the story. Having suffered a defeat, he must rebuild his strength and create the weapon that will give him the power to dominate the other ring-bearers. That weapon, of course, is the One Ring, whose creation will have consequences stretching thousands of years into the future.
The trailer also offers glimpses of the increasingly dangerous forces gathering under Sauron’s command, including an enormous army preparing to march across Middle-earth. With the war expanding, the series appears to be moving toward some of the largest battles it has attempted so far.
Charlie Vickers returns as Sauron, continuing the character’s transformation from the mysterious Halbrand into the figure who will eventually become the central threat of The Lord of the Rings. Morfydd Clark also returns as Galadriel, whose efforts to stop Sauron have become increasingly personal after discovering how thoroughly he manipulated her.
Who is in The Rings of Power season 3
The returning cast includes Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Benjamin Walker as Gil-galad, Ismael Cruz Córdova as Arondir, Owain Arthur as Durin IV and Sophia Nomvete as Disa. The series also continues following the Númenórean storyline, where political divisions and the kingdom’s relationship with the Elves remain central to its future.
Season 3 will also introduce several new characters as the story expands. Jamie Campbell Bower, Eddie Marsan and Zubin Varla are among the actors joining the cast, although Prime Video has kept some details about their roles under wraps.
The forging of the One Ring is one of the defining events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age, eventually leading to the Last Alliance of Elves and Men and the battle in which Isildur cuts the Ring from Sauron’s hand. Those events were famously depicted in the opening sequence of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
The Rings of Power has been building toward this moment since its first season, gradually revealing Sauron’s identity and showing how the Rings were created. With the One Ring now entering the story, the series is moving into a particularly important chapter of Tolkien’s mythology.
When does The Rings of Power season 3 come out?
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 is coming to Prime Video on November 11, 2026.
