The Boogieman cometh. That’s right. Just in time for Halloween, Egon’s childhood nightmare returns for a little sneak peek. And this time he glows in the dark.
Mondo is bringing one of The Real Ghostbusters’ creepiest villains back into the spotlight with a new glow-in-the-dark Boogieman figure. The collectible has been teased ahead of everyone’s favorite spooky holiday, giving fans of the classic animated series another reason to check under their beds.
The Boogieman, a nightmare-inducing monster from the animated series, has already received the Mondo treatment. The character previously appeared alongside Dr. Egon Spengler in the company’s 1/12-scale The Real Ghostbusters Egon and Boogieman Collector’s Pack, which included alternate portraits and hands for the ghoul. But that two-pack sadly sold out quicker than tickets to see Dune: Part Three this Christmas.
Now, Mondo appears ready to give the monster a new glow-in-the-dark makeover. The teaser offers an early look at what’s being called the The Real Ghostbusters Glow-a-Dark Boogieman 1/12 Scale Figure, although full product details have yet to be announced.
That leaves some important questions unanswered, including when collectors can get their hands on it. Mondo has developed a growing lineup of figures based on the 1986 animated series, giving classic characters and their supernatural enemies the high-end collectible treatment, which you can check out at the Mondo shop.
For anyone who grew up watching The Real Ghostbusters, the Boogieman remains an especially fitting character for a Halloween release. Whether Mondo has another nightmare waiting for collectors or something even stranger planned, we’ll have to wait for the full reveal. Keep an eye on Mondo’s official channels for more details as they emerge.
For anyone who grew up watching the Ghostbusters animated series, the Boogieman was more than another ghost waiting to get zapped by a proton stream. The monster made its debut in the 1986 episode “The Boogieman Cometh,” where it terrorizes children by emerging through their bedroom closets. The really creepy part? Egon Spengler already knew the creature, having been haunted by it as a child. That encounter helped inspire Egon’s lifelong fascination with the paranormal, giving one of the cartoon’s most memorable villains a direct connection to the Ghostbuster’s past.
The Boogieman returned in “The Bogeyman Is Back” in 1987, putting Egon face-to-face with his old nightmare once again. The character stood out because he turned a familiar childhood fear into a genuine supernatural threat, even for the Ghostbuster who understood the science behind the team’s strangest cases. That personal history helped make the Boogieman one of The Real Ghostbusters‘ most memorable recurring villains. She’s the perfect choice for a collectible arriving around Halloween. Also, you might note, the show itself changed the spelling of this villain. But Mondo keeps the original spelling with the IE intact on their shop page. In case you thought I was doofing on a misspell? Like I’d dew that.
