‘Beavis and Butt-Head Do America‘ Gets a Deluxe 4K Release With a 40-Page Book and Hours of Extras From Vinegar Syndrome

Beavis and ButtHead Do America Bluray

Beavis and Butt-Head are finally getting the kind of television upgrade they’ve never been smart enough to ask for. Mike Judge’s 1996 animated comedy Beavis and Butt-Head Do America is getting a deluxe 4K UHD and Blu-ray release from Vinegar Syndrome, complete with a new restoration, collectible packaging, a 40-page book, and enough bonus material to keep the boys busy until they inevitably lose their television again.

The release is part of Vinegar Syndrome Ultra, the company’s premium physical-media line, and carries catalog number VSU-019. The two-disc set includes a 4K Ultra HD disc and a Region A Blu-ray, with the 4K presentation newly scanned and restored from the film’s original 35mm camera negative. It also features Dolby Vision HDR and English 5.1 surround sound.

For collectors, there’s another important detail: this is a special limited edition deluxe magnet box and slipcover set designed by Brianna Miller and Steak Mtn. It includes a 40-page perfect-bound book and reversible cover artwork. Vinegar Syndrome says the edition will only be available through its website and select independent retailers. Major retailers won’t be stocking it.

Beavis and Butt-Head Are Going on the Road Again

Based on Mike Judge’s hugely successful MTV characters, Beavis and Butt-Head Do America sent the constantly chuckling Generation X troublemakers on their first feature-length adventure. After their television is stolen, the boys leave home in search of a replacement. Things go sideways when a criminal named Muddy Grimes mistakes them for the hitmen he’s hired to kill his wife.

With Beavis and Butt-Head operating on their usual combination of misinformation, bad decisions, and extraordinary dumb luck, the misunderstanding sends them across the country. Their journey soon involves the FBI, their neighbors the Andersons, and a growing collection of people who would probably prefer never to encounter the duo again.

Judge wrote, directed, produced, and provided much of the film’s voice work. The cast also features Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, Robert Stack, Cloris Leachman, David Letterman, Richard Linklater, Greg Kinnear, Eric Bogosian, and Toby Huss. The film became a major box-office success and brought the MTV slackers to the big screen at the height of their popularity.

The 4K Edition Comes Loaded With Bonus Features

Vinegar Syndrome isn’t treating this like a bare-bones reissue. The set includes two commentary tracks, several new interviews, archival documentaries, promotional material, and a substantial collection of extras from the film’s original release era.

The full bonus lineup includes:

  • Audio commentary with Mike Judge and Yvette Kaplan, the film’s directors.
  • Audio commentary with film critic Bilge Ebiri and Justin LaLiberty.
  • “It Better Be Good” (21 minutes): A new interview with producer John Andrews.
  • “Buttspeed” (21 minutes): A new interview with sound editor John Bowen.
  • “Protect the Humor” (15 minutes): A new interview with composer John Frizzell.
  • “Pure Fun” (12 minutes): A new interview with voice actor Toby Huss.
  • “Weird Cool Shit” (22 minutes): A new interview with sequence director Chris Prynoski.
  • “The Big Picture” (23 minutes): An archival making-of documentary featuring cast and crew interviews.
  • “We’re Gonna Score!” (11 minutes): An archival interview with composer John Frizzell.
  • “Taint of Greatness: The Journey of Beavis and Butt-Head” (71 minutes): An archival documentary about the creation of the animated series, presented in three parts.
  • MTV News updates (4 minutes): Featuring Jennifer Tilly, Steve Buscemi, and Snoop Dogg.
  • Four promotional shorts (3 minutes): Mike Judge directing Beavis and Butt-Head.
  • Eight original TV spots (3 minutes).
  • Two original theatrical trailers.
  • 40-page perfect-bound book: Featuring essays by Matt Singer, BenDavid Grabinski, and Christina Newland, along with an original 1996 critique by Roger Ebert.
  • Reversible cover artwork.

This Beavis and Butt-Head Release Is for Collectors

The Beavis and Butt-Head Do America 4K UHD and Blu-ray set is available to preorder directly through Vinegar Syndrome. The company identifies it as a Black Friday preorder, with orders among the first to ship after subscriber and flash preorders once the Black Friday sale concludes.

That sale runs from Friday, November 27 through Tuesday, December 1, 2026. Vinegar Syndrome also says customers can add additional items to their preorder package during the sale without paying extra shipping.

The limited edition is available through Vinegar Syndrome’s official product page and select independent retailers. If you were hoping to find it at a major chain, you’re out of luck. This particular box set won’t be stocked there.

For a movie about two guys who spend most of their time sitting in front of a television, this is a surprisingly substantial amount of material to get through. Beavis and Butt-Head probably won’t read the 40-page book, listen to the commentaries, or appreciate the restoration. But the rest of us can enjoy the trip back to 1996 without having to dig out an old VHS tape.
