‘Gamer Girls’ Trailer Throws Esports Team Dollhouse Into a Cyberpunk Fight for Survival

Gamer Girls Trailer

Getting the band back together is one thing. Getting an entire esports scene back on its feet while the people running the competition are trying to shut you down is a different kind of challenge. That’s the situation facing the former members of Dollhouse in Gamer Girls, a Hong Kong action-drama about five women who refuse to give up gaming just because their original team fell apart.

I wasn’t sure what I was about to click on, but this looks like the best kind of Saturday night, alone, with nothing but a couple free streaming tokens and a love for Churries and Cyberpunk madness to my name. Count me in and check it out for yourself. Looks pretty cool. Huh?

Directed by Veronica Bassetto and Sophie Yang, Gamer Girls follows the five former teammates as they reunite under a new name and decide to take matters into their own hands. Now calling themselves Gamer Girls, they launch an independent competition at a local Hong Kong-style café known as a cha chaan teng, hoping to give the city’s gaming community a new place to compete.

Their plans run into trouble when the e-gaming authority threatens to prevent them from competing. The team’s fight soon extends beyond winning matches, putting their ability to participate in the gaming scene at risk. The film blends that real-world struggle with a virtual fantasy world, bringing competitive gaming into a story about the determination to keep playing when the odds are stacked against you.

The film also has a little festival history behind it. Gamer Girls was selected for the Bright Future program at the 2026 International Film Festival Rotterdam, which highlights feature-film debuts from emerging filmmakers. The film’s virtual world, called Dystopian Glory, was designed by Bassetto, adding another layer to the movie’s mix of Hong Kong locations and digital fantasy.

The cast includes Angela Yuen as Summer, Alma Kwok as Lilith, Sabrina Cheung as Raven, Ng Wing Sze as Kaki, Jeannie Ka-Yan Ng as Miko, and CY Chan. Jacqueline Liu produced the 102-minute film, which is presented in Cantonese with English subtitles.

Gamer Girls will be available on demand through leading digital platforms and begin streaming on Film Movement Plus on November 13, 2026. The release gives North American audiences a chance to catch the film after its earlier Hong Kong release and international festival appearances.

For anyone who has ever watched a favorite gaming group fall apart and wished the players would find their way back to the same server, Gamer Girls is offering a pretty compelling reason to hit continue.
