Greg Heffley is trading snow-covered Christmas mornings for an island vacation, but his family’s latest holiday plans might not be the relaxing getaway they had in mind. Disney has released the official trailer and poster for Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: The Getaway, a new animated holiday movie arriving on Disney+ December 4, 2026. Based on Jeff Kinney’s bestselling book series, the latest adventure sends Greg and the rest of the Heffley family to an all-inclusive island resort for Christmas, where their plans for a little rest and relaxation quickly begin to unravel.
With the holidays approaching, the Heffleys make a last-minute decision to escape the seasonal stress by heading somewhere considerably warmer. Greg isn’t particularly thrilled about the idea, but the family packs up and heads off for what they hope will be a much-needed vacation.
Unfortunately, their tropical Christmas doesn’t go quite as planned. As the family settles into its island getaway, they discover that paradise may not be everything it was advertised to be, leaving Greg to wonder whether their holiday trip can be saved before it becomes a complete disaster.
The new movie brings back the familiar Heffley family, with Jacob Isaac Peterson voicing Greg Heffley. Chris Diamantopoulos plays his father, Frank, while Erica Cerra voices his mother, Susan. Hunter Dillon returns as Greg’s older brother Rodrick, with Gracen Newton voicing his younger brother Manny.
Jude Zarzaur joins the cast as Greg’s best friend Rowley, while several recognizable performers voice characters the family encounters during its vacation.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: The Getaway is directed by Matt Danner, who previously directed Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw. Series creator Jeff Kinney wrote and produced the new film, continuing his involvement with Disney’s animated adaptations of his books.
The upcoming movie follows the franchise’s familiar approach to Greg’s family misadventures, this time putting the Heffleys in an unfamiliar setting during what should be the most wonderful time of the year.
Rather than another Christmas story built around decorating the house or preparing for Santa’s arrival, The Getaway finds the family trying to enjoy the holidays far from home, with the usual Heffley complications following them all the way to their island resort.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: The Getaway premieres Friday, December 4, 2026, exclusively on Disney+. Previous animated Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies are also available to stream on the service.
