‘Mickey’s Home Alone’ Trailer Puts Mickey Mouse in Kevin McCallister’s Shoes for Christmas

Mickey’s Home Alone trailer

Mickey Mouse is about to find out what it’s like to be Kevin McCallister, and he’s bringing Pluto along for the ride.

Disney has released the official trailer for Mickey’s Home Alone, a new animated holiday special inspired by the 1990 Christmas favorite. The special premieres Thanksgiving Day, November 26, at 6 p.m. ET/PT on Disney Jr., before arriving on Disney+ the following day.

The story begins with Mickey looking forward to spending Christmas at home, only for Minnie to surprise the gang with tickets to a world-famous Ice Palace. Unfortunately, the morning rush doesn’t go quite as planned, and Mickey and Pluto are accidentally left behind. Things get even more complicated when a raccoon and a weasel show up looking to steal their Christmas dinner. With Minnie and the others desperately trying to make their way back home, Mickey and Pluto are left to defend the house from the two unwanted visitors.

The setup should sound familiar to anyone who grew up watching Macaulay Culkin outsmart a pair of burglars in Home Alone. Disney’s animated version trades the Wet Bandits for a couple of mischievous animals, with Mickey and Pluto taking on the role of holiday home defenders. The new trailer offers a look at the Christmas chaos awaiting the pair, with the special putting a distinctly Mickey Mouse spin on the familiar premise.

There’s also some new holiday music on the way. Mickey’s Home Alone features two original songs, “Ho-Ho-Home for Christmas” and “Favorite Christmas Feeling,” written by Keith Harrison Dworkin, along with a new arrangement of “Jingle Bells.” An official EP featuring music from the special will be released on digital music platforms Friday, November 6, several weeks ahead of the television premiere.

Mickey’s Home Alone is produced by Wild Canary in association with Disney Jr., with Shane Prigmore directing. Prigmore’s previous animation credits include How to Train Your Dragon and Coraline. Tom Rogers serves as executive producer, Rachel Ruderman is co-executive producer, and Tony Morales composed the score.

Disney has also confirmed several additional opportunities to watch the special throughout the holiday season.

Mickey’s Home Alone Broadcast Schedule:

  • November 26: Disney Jr. premiere at 6 p.m. ET/PT
  • November 27: Streaming premiere on Disney+
  • November 30: Disney Channel encore at 7 p.m. ET/PT
  • December 19: Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas at 2 p.m. ET/PT

The special will also receive screenings at The Paley Center for Media’s annual Paleyland event in New York City on December 5, alongside other Disney holiday programming, including Bluey Christmas episodes and A Proud Family Wizmas.

It’s shaping up to be a particularly busy Thanksgiving week for Mickey Mouse. Just one night before Mickey’s Home Alone premieres, Disney’s 1983 animated classic Mickey’s Christmas Carol returns to ABC on November 25 for the first time in 23 years.
