New ‘The Angry Birds Movie 3‘ Trailer Rocks Out With Its Flock Out As Red and His Family Save the World

Angry Birds 3 Trailer

Red has spent years getting angry at the world. Now he has a family to worry about. Apparently, the world still needs saving too, as Paramount releases the second trailer for The Angry Birds Movie 3. Teasing a new adventure that puts fatherhood at the center of the latest flock of feathered troublemakers.

The trailer also gives fans a chance to hear “Sun Showers,” the original song co-written by BLACKPINK star Jisoo for the animated sequel.

“Saving the world is a family affair” is the message accompanying the new footage, which arrives ahead of the film’s December 23, 2026 theatrical release. The new theme song is already available to pre-save through Jisoo’s official link.

This is a nice bit of follow-through on the Jisoo news we covered earlier this week. As previously reported, the K-pop star co-wrote “Sun Showers” for The Angry Birds Movie 3. The song is set to appear in the film, and its inclusion in the new trailer gives audiences their latest preview of the track. There is also a personal connection behind the single’s artwork: it features Shumon, a little dustball creature Jisoo originally drew while she was in middle school, long before becoming an international pop star. Seeing that childhood creation become part of a major animated movie was, “deeply meaningful.”

Jisoo said she wanted “Sun Showers” to capture the film’s playful energy with a feel-good sound that makes people want to smile and dance. Now that the song is attached to the movie’s latest trailer, fans can get a better sense of how it fits into the new adventure.

The third film shifts the focus toward Red’s life as a father. Jason Sudeikis returns as the famously irritable bird, with Rachel Bloom back as Silver. Their family includes June, voiced by Emma Myers, and Glider, voiced by Walker Scobell, along with Baby Olly, voiced by Psalm West. The family’s pet spider, Fuzzy, is voiced by James Austin Johnson. Tim Robinson joins the flock as a new pig character named Pork Chop.

The returning voice cast also includes Josh Gad as Chuck and Danny McBride as Bomb. Keke Palmer, Lily James, Sam Richardson, Marcello Hernández, Anna Cathcart, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Nikki Glaser, MrBeast, Salish Matter and Anthony Padilla are among the additional voices. Ian Hecox also joins the cast.

John Rice, who directed the original The Angry Birds Movie, is back behind the camera. Thurop Van Orman, who directed The Angry Birds Movie 2, wrote the screenplay. The film is being produced by Prime Focus Studios, DNEG Animation, Rovio Entertainment and SEGA, with Paramount Pictures handling its theatrical release.

It has been a decade since Red first made the jump from mobile game character to movie star. The original The Angry Birds Movie introduced audiences to an island populated by flightless birds who were perfectly happy with their lives until a group of green pigs arrived. Red was the odd bird out, sent to anger management after his temper repeatedly got him into trouble. There he met Chuck and Bomb, two other misfits who eventually helped him uncover what the pigs were really up to. The visitors had their eyes on the birds’ eggs, and Red had to convince the island that its seemingly friendly new neighbors were planning something rotten. The resulting rescue mission finally gave the angry bird a reason to put that temper to good use.

The 2016 film was a substantial theatrical hit, earning approximately $352.3 million worldwide against a reported $73 million production budget. It opened at No. 1 in 50 countries, helping turn the mobile gaming phenomenon into a successful movie franchise. The reviews were considerably less enthusiastic than the box-office numbers. Rotten Tomatoes currently lists the original at 44% with critics and 47% with audiences. Plenty of families clearly had a good time with it, even if the movie didn’t exactly win over the review crowd.

Three years later, The Angry Birds Movie 2 brought Red, Chuck and Bomb back for another round. This time, the birds had to put their long-running feud with the pigs aside when a new threat emerged from Eagle Island. Zeta, a powerful eagle voiced by Leslie Jones, planned to use a giant weapon to destroy Bird Island and Pig Island. Red and his friends joined forces with Leonard and the pigs, forming an unlikely team to stop her. The sequel also introduced Silver, Chuck’s clever sister, who became an important part of Red’s life.

Here’s where the franchise’s numbers get interesting. The sequel actually received a much warmer response from critics and audiences. Rotten Tomatoes currently gives The Angry Birds Movie 2 a 72% critics score and an 84% audience score, both considerably higher than the original. But that improvement didn’t translate into a bigger theatrical payday. The 2019 sequel earned approximately $152.3 million worldwide on a reported $65 million budget.

That’s a drop of roughly 57% from the first movie’s worldwide box-office total. The original earned more than twice as much as its follow-up, despite the sequel’s stronger review scores. Taken together, the first two films still brought in more than $500 million worldwide, which helps explain why the studios are giving the birds another shot at the big screen.

Now the franchise is moving into family territory. Red has gone from the grumpy outsider who couldn’t stand the other birds to someone with a household of his own, and the third film appears ready to test how well he handles that responsibility when another world-threatening mess arrives. He may have learned to control his anger, but parenting could prove to be a completely different challenge. The Angry Birds Movie 3 opens exclusively in theaters on December 23, 2026.
