Fortnitemares 2026 has unleashed a cavalcade of horror favorites into the world of Fortnite for Halloween. Through October, we’ll be getting Robert Englund’s original Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street, along with Beetlejuice, Slender Man, The Purge and everyone’s favorite gang of animatronics from Five Nights at Freddy’s. We’ve also seen a tease for the One Wish Willow from Obsession. This is one crossover event that’s sure to melt even DrScreams’ dusty old brain.
I’ve long dreamed of seeing Freddy Krueger vs. Freddy Fazbear. It’s something I salivate over quite often in the lab. Now, Fortnite has made this delicious crossover nightmare a pearl-clutching reality. Epic Games announced the madness with trailers and promo art, revealing plenty of planned surprises for Halloween.
The first trailer for Fortnitemares 2026 teases the triumphant debut of Bonnie, Chica, Freddy and Foxy in the weird and wonderfully frightening world of Fortnite, giving us more animatronic action in 30 seconds than Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 managed to squeeze into its entire runtime.
Shortly after this electrifying decree, Epic Games dropped its “Cinematic Trailer,” showing us who else will be terrorizing players this fall. In addition to Freddy Fazbear and the gang, it shows the original Freddy Krueger back in his iconic striped sweater and fedora, living on Elm Street, along with creepypasta favorite Slender Man and the masked denizens of The Purge.
Beetlejuice is coming along for the ride, sure as the tagline reads, “The Game is Cursed!” We also see Japanese manga Black Clover in the mix. And if that’s not enough for you greedy little goblins, Fortnite is also promising to enter the world of Curry Barker’s Obsession, with a One Wish Willow tease. I wish Robert Englund was still young enough to play Freddy in the upcoming reboot, so we didn’t have to see all these dudes clamoring for the role with their homemade audition tapes.
Even more surprises are planned for Fortnitemares 2026 throughout October. Earlier reporting had Predator and The Exorcist among the rumored, unconfirmed possibilities. While a Pazuzu-zooted Regan hasn’t emerged yet, we are getting Dek from Predator: Badlands. Others showing up include skins for Hazbin Hotel and a raccoon that looks an awful lot like viral superstar little Jimothy.
Epic Games isn’t just throwing a bunch of horror characters into the Fortnite Shop and calling it Halloween. Fortnitemares 2026 is turning the island into a full-blown nightmare playground. Players can drop into Freaky Fields or explore the new Nightmare Neighborhood POI, where Freddy Krueger is waiting to make your day considerably worse. Take him down and you can claim Freddy’s Nightmare, a new weapon that lets you teleport into range before slicing and dicing your unfortunate opponents.
Apparently getting slashed by Freddy isn’t enough. There’s also a new Bonerattler SMG for revealing enemies, along with the return of the Wood Stake Shotgun and Pumpkin Launcher. Yes, the Pumpkin Launcher is back. I assume this means Fortnite has once again decided that pumpkins are weapons of war. Which, I think we kind of knew all along. Have you ever been in a pumpkin ball fight? It only hurts slightly less than getting a snowball to the ear in below-freezing temperatures.
There are also cursed cartridge Overrides that give players some seriously nasty advantages. Depending on the Override, you can become invisible while sprinting, dish out more damage when your health is running low, or disguise your entire squad as Halloween props.
Now things get really weird. Players can take on Five Nights at Freddy’s animatronic bosses, defeat them and actually possess one of the terrifying mechanical murder machines to go stomping around the island and terrorizing everyone else.
That’s definitely one fun way to celebrate Halloween this year. Seriously, what else were you going to do? Actually go outside and touch candy?
Sorry, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The Horde Rush LTM is also returning, while Nitemare Island gets an updated version in Reload on October 8. That update will bring the Stranger Things and Squid Grounds maps along for the ride.
If you were worried that Epic Games had somehow forgotten about the actual costumes, don’t panic, all you nauseating little lunch bellies out there. The Five Nights at Freddy’s outfits are already in the Item Shop, complete with battle damage.
Throughout October, the Halloween invasion will continue with outfits and collaborations inspired by A Nightmare on Elm Street, Black Clover, Hollow Knight, 99 Nights in the Forest, Hazbin Hotel, The Purge, Obsession, Slender Man, Beetlejuice, Predator: Badlands and Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights.
So, basically, Fortnite has become the place where Freddy Krueger, Freddy Fazbear, Beetlejuice, Slender Man and a whole neighborhood of other monsters can hang out together without anyone calling the police. I think the police gave up a long time ago, anyway.
If you’re a horror fan who’s never played Fortnite, this might be the thing that finally gets you to download the dang thing. Don’t ask me how to get you started in the world of Fortnitemares, though. I’m just a scientist who works in a lab. I don’t have time for games.
