Wendy’s has a video game coming out before Grand Theft Auto VI. No, you didn’t read that wrong. The fast-food chain has announced WendyQuest: Legend of the Four Corner Stones, a free-to-play fantasy RPG starring its iconic redheaded mascot.
And if you’re wondering when you can play it, WendyQuest is scheduled to arrive on November 4, exactly 15 days before Rockstar’s long-awaited GTA 6 launches on November 19. Trust me, I am much more excited about this news that Grand Theft Auto.
Wendy’s shared the announcement through its official X account, and the game already has a listing on Steam. Developed and published by independent studio 81monkeys, WendyQuest is a 2D adventure RPG with handcrafted pixel art, turn-based combat, and a story that takes the chain’s food obsession into full fantasy territory.
Forget saving the world from zombies or trying to survive a post-apocalyptic wasteland. This time, players take control of a warrior version of Wendy as she attempts to save the culinary kingdom of Savoria. The land has fallen under a curse called Mechtosis, unleashed by the evil Dr. Mechborg and his organization, Mech Corp. Their crimes against cuisine include frozen beef and soggy fries, which apparently have become serious threats to the kingdom.
Wendy must unite four magical stones and put an end to the culinary catastrophe. Fortunately, she won’t have to do it alone. Her party can include a French Fry Archer, a Spicy Chickeneer, and a Frosty Mage. Each companion has special advantages against different enemy types, including the game’s Golden Archers and Hot Sludge Sundaes.
Combat uses a turn-based system, with players timing attacks to deal extra damage. Wendy also has access to familiar menu items that can help her party recover. A Dave’s Single, for example, is among the game’s healing options. It’s certainly a different way to work a fast-food menu into an RPG.
WendyQuest Promises Real Food Rewards
One of the more unusual features advertised on the Steam page is the promise that players can “earn real food as you play.” That’s a pretty enticing offer, especially for anyone who has ever wished their gaming achievements came with an actual meal.
The catch is that Wendy’s and 81monkeys haven’t explained exactly how the reward system will work. The announcement and Steam description don’t provide the redemption requirements, participating locations, or details about which menu items players might be able to earn. For now, we’ll have to wait for more information before counting on a free Frosty or burger.
The game itself is listed as free to play on Steam, so players won’t need to pay for the basic experience when it arrives. It’s a single-player adventure, with five food-themed regions to explore and plenty of ridiculous culinary enemies to fight. The Steam listing also includes Steam Deck support, although the listed release platform is PC.
And if you take a look at the system requirements, you’ll find that the developers are having a little fun with the whole thing. The minimum processor requirement is listed as a “Potato,” while the recommended graphics hardware is an “Oven.” The sound card requirement is “Salt,” with ketchup listed as optional. At least you won’t need a high-end gaming rig to save Savoria.
WendyQuest Gets to the Finish Line Before GTA 6
The timing is what makes this announcement even more amusing. WendyQuest: Legend of the Four Corner Stones is scheduled to launch November 4, 2026, while Grand Theft Auto VI is set to arrive November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That’s a 15-day head start for Wendy’s fantasy adventure.
Of course, nobody is suggesting that a free Wendy’s RPG is going to have the same audience or expectations as Rockstar’s next massive open-world game. But after years of waiting for GTA 6, the idea that Wendy’s will have its own video game out in the wild first is a pretty funny gaming milestone.
If you’re curious about the project, you can already visit the official WendyQuest Steam page and add it to your wishlist. The game is currently listed as free to play, with its November 4 release date confirmed.
So, while everyone else is counting down the days until they can finally get their hands on GTA 6, there’s a new question to consider: Are you ready to save Savoria with a French Fry Archer and a Frosty Mage? Wendy’s is getting into the RPG business, and somehow we’re getting to play its game before we get to play Grand Theft Auto VI.
