Slimer Pizza is Helping One Local New Jersey Pizzeria Celebrate ‘Ghostbusters‘ Day This Halloween Season

Slimer Pizza New Jersey Ghostbusters Day

No one likes slimy pizza. But here’s one occasion where it might be ok. It’s time to get slimed all over again, with pizza that is sure to turn other Ghostbusters Day celebrations green with envy.

Slimer has never been particularly good at resisting pizza, and now one New Jersey pizzeria is giving the  ghost another reason to raid the fridge this Halloween season. Vinny’s Pizza & Pasta in Cranford is bringing back its Slimer Pizza Special on Saturday, October 24, as part of the town’s annual Ghostbusters Day celebration.

The special features pizza dough dyed bright green, giving the crust a slime-covered look worthy of everyone’s favorite ectoplasmic menace. There’s no actual ghost goo involved. According to the restaurant, the dough ferments for just 24 hours, creating bubbles that help produce the unusual appearance.

A large Slimer pizza costs $16, while individual slices are $3. Vinny’s has teamed up with the Cranford Theater for the promotion over the past six years, with the restaurant noting that kids and families really love it.

Pizza is a fitting tribute to Slimer, whose appetite has been part of his character since the original Ghostbusters era. The green ghost even came with a pepperoni pizza in his classic Kenner action figure release, and he gets his fill of possessed pizza in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

The Slimer special is just one part of Cranford’s Ghostbusters Day, which runs downtown from 1 to 4 p.m. on October 24. Activities include a Ghostbusters car show, a slime station, a scavenger hunt and a meet-and-greet with Stay Puft. Visitors can also enjoy complimentary Stay Puft s’mores.

The day starts earlier with Ghostbusters Brunch & Trivia at Garlic Rose Bistro, running from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Then, at 4 p.m., Cranford Theater will screen the original Ghostbusters, giving fans a chance to finish the day with the 1984 classic.
