Eggs. A chest burster. Maybe even a little hug. It sounds like Ridley Scott is ready to once again embrace his sci-fi roots by returning to the franchise that made him famous. Yes, the man is ready to give us a new Alien movie.
Gosh, it’s not like we have enough to begin with, right?
The iconic Alien franchise is expanding even further across the cosmos. According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, a brand-new xenomorph thriller is officially in development at 20th Century Studios.
Ridley Scott is reteaming with writer Aaron Guzikowski to spearhead the project. Guzikowski previously created and served as showrunner for the ambitious HBO Max sci-fi drama Raised by Wolves, which Scott executive produced and directed early episodes of, and which I never personally watched myself. If you think I can afford Apple TV+ working in the internet trenches, then you are proudly stuck in 2006. And I salute you.
Details regarding plot specifics, casting, and whether the project connects directly to Fede Alvarez’s recent box-office hit Alien: Romulus or Scott’s earlier prequel films Prometheus and Alien: Covenant are currently being kept under wraps. Franchise custodian 20th Century Studios is keeping cards close to the chest as development gets underway. But let’s remember that H.R. Giger’s nightmare creation is now curled up inside the air ducts of the mouse house. Yes, our egg-laying biatch is now a Disney Princess. Alas, she used to be a queen.
The franchise has experienced a massive resurgence following the theatrical success of Alien: Romulus, which pulled in over $350 million worldwide, alongside Noah Hawley’s upcoming television expansion. I didn’t like the movie, and I never finished the TV show, though I did like the handful of episodes I watched.
With Scott continuing to shepherd the universe, this new collaboration signals that the studio has no plans to slow down production on the iconic Xenomorph property anytime soon.
