Ebenezer Scrooge isn’t exactly known for his holiday spirit, and it looks like Halloween isn’t going to change that.
Paramount Pictures has released a new promotional video for Ti West’s upcoming Ebenezer, featuring Johnny Depp as the notoriously unpleasant Christmas miser receiving an unexpected Halloween visit from trick-or-treaters. The short video arrives just ahead of tickets going on sale for the film’s November 13 theatrical release.
The Halloween-themed promotion gives audiences another look at Depp’s take on Scrooge, who will be at the center of West’s new interpretation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Rather than waiting until December to introduce the character, Paramount is using spooky season to remind audiences that Scrooge’s story has always had a supernatural side.
“This November, prepare to be ghosted. Johnny Depp is the deliciously unpleasant Ebenezer Scrooge in a thrilling reimagining of the most iconic ghost story of all time,” the official description reads.
The film follows Scrooge on one extraordinary Christmas Eve as he confronts his past, present and future during a supernatural journey that will determine his fate. Paramount is promising a different take on the familiar story, although the studio hasn’t revealed exactly how West’s version will depart from previous adaptations.
West’s involvement makes Ebenezer particularly interesting for horror fans. The filmmaker previously directed X, Pearl and MaXXXine, and his latest project gives him an opportunity to explore the darker elements of Dickens’ Christmas ghost story.
The film has received a PG-13 rating for “frightening material,” which suggests West won’t be ignoring the more unsettling aspects of Scrooge’s supernatural encounters. Johnny Depp leads an ensemble cast that includes Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Henry Lloyd-Hughes and Charlie Murphy, with Tramell Tillman and Ian McKellen also appearing.
Tickets for Ebenezer go on sale October 27, with the movie opening exclusively in theaters November 13, 2026.
