Drivers in Cary, North Carolina got an unexpected Halloween surprise when a giant inflatable pumpkin broke loose and went rolling down a busy road, sending motorists scrambling to get out of its way.
The bizarre incident was captured on video and has since made its way around social media, showing the enormous orange pumpkin tumbling along the roadway as vehicles attempt to avoid it. What started as an ordinary drive suddenly looked like a scene from a Halloween horror comedy.
The oversized decoration appears to have been caught by strong winds, sending it away from wherever it had originally been secured. Once on the road, the pumpkin continued rolling through traffic, with its size making it impossible for approaching drivers to miss.
Footage shared on Instagram shows the inflatable moving down the street as drivers react to the unexpected obstacle. Fortunately, the runaway decoration appears to have caused more confusion than actual damage. No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident, although it’s unclear how long the pumpkin remained loose or who eventually managed to bring it under control.
As it should be, giant inflatable Halloween decorations have become increasingly popular in recent years, with homeowners and businesses putting up oversized pumpkins, ghosts and other seasonal characters. For anyone who has ever wondered what it would look like if a giant jack-o’-lantern came to life and started chasing cars, we can now thank North Carolina.
