Danielle Harris spent her childhood facing Michael Myers on screen, but a new documentary is turning the cameras toward the horror icon herself. Deranged Minds Entertainment has announced a feature-length film about the actress’s life and career, and the first teaser promises a look at the experiences that audiences have never seen behind her decades in Hollywood.
The documentary has been filmed over the past three years and is now in post-production, with a festival run planned for 2027. Directors and producers Tristan Clay and Destinie Orndoff are behind the project, which draws on archival footage and interviews with Harris, her family, friends, and colleagues.
The film’s tagline sets the tone: “Meet the woman who outran the monsters.”
Harris became a horror favorite at just 11 years old, playing Jamie Lloyd in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers in 1988. She returned the following year for Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, surviving two encounters with the franchise’s masked killer before she was old enough to drive.
Her career has stretched well beyond Haddonfield. Harris appeared alongside Bruce Willis in The Last Boy Scout and starred in Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead and Free Willy. She later returned to the Halloween franchise in Rob Zombie’s 2007 film and its 2009 sequel, while building a long list of additional horror credits.
The documentary will also explore the difficult experiences Harris has faced away from the screen. According to the filmmakers’ announcement, the film addresses her father’s death in an unsolved car accident, the suicides of a former partner and a close friend, and a stalker who allegedly tracked her for two decades. It also covers a pregnancy complication that reportedly caused her heart to stop.
Those experiences are central to the documentary’s stated aim of looking beyond the performances that made Harris recognizable to horror audiences.
“People think they know Danielle because they grew up watching her,” Orndoff said. “They’ve seen the performances. They’ve never seen what it cost her, and Danielle didn’t hold anything back.”
Clay also spoke about the experience of spending three years documenting Harris’s life.
“In the three years of filming, I had the honor of getting to know the woman off the screen,” he said. “I can’t wait for audiences to see this side of her.”
Harris has also stepped behind the camera herself. She made her feature directorial debut with Among Friends in 2012 and recently co-directed Last Chance Motel with fellow horror actor Scout Taylor-Compton.
The documentary is produced by Deranged Minds Entertainment, with Orndoff, Clay, Hayden Todd Wilberger, and Jordan Wyant serving as producers. No distributor or public release date has been announced, though the filmmakers are planning a festival run next year.
For fans who have followed Harris since her early Halloween appearances, the documentary offers a chance to see more of the person behind Jamie Lloyd and the many horror roles that followed. The first teaser is available to watch now.
