Sour Patch Kids Chicken Wings: Wingstop Dares You to Try Them This Halloween

Sour Patch Kids Chicken Wings

Is it it a trick or is it a treat? You be the judge this Halloween.

Wingstop has teamed up with the popular sour candy brand to create Sour Patch Kids Wicked Punch, a limited-time flavor that combines chicken wings with a sweet and sour REDBERRY glaze and actual pieces of Sour Patch Kids candy. The unusual collaboration arrives nationwide October 27, with Club Wingstop members getting early access beginning October 23.

Created by Wingstop’s culinary team, Wicked Punch takes the familiar sour-then-sweet flavor of Sour Patch Kids and turns it into a sauce for chicken. The wings are coated in a Redberry glaze and finished with Sour Patch Kids Bitz, adding pieces of the candy directly to the finished dish.

And yes, Wingstop knows exactly how this sounds.

“Candy on wings? We know exactly what you’re thinking. But no, seriously, it has no business being this good,” Wingstop President and CEO Michael Skipworth said in announcing the collaboration. “Sour Patch Kids Wicked Punch wings bring sour and sweet together in a way only Wingstop can. It may sound unexpected, but one bite is all it takes to understand why this one is a treat.”

The new flavor won’t be limited to traditional wings. Wingstop says Wicked Punch will be available across all of its chicken options, including classic wings, boneless wings, tenders and chicken sandwiches, giving customers several ways to try the candy-inspired glaze.

The promotion also kicks off Sour Patch Kids’ “13 Days of Mischief” Halloween campaign, which takes the candy brand beyond its usual place in trick-or-treat bags.

“For the Sour Patch Kids brand, Halloween usually means owning the candy bowl. This year, the SOUR PATCH KIDS brand decided candy wasn’t enough,” said Lauryn McDonough, Senior Director of Candy at Mondelēz International.

The timing is pretty convenient for anyone planning a Halloween party or horror movie marathon. Club Wingstop members can order Wicked Punch beginning Friday, October 23, while everyone else will be able to try it starting Tuesday, October 27.

There isn’t much time to decide whether candy belongs on chicken, either. Wingstop says Sour Patch Kids Wicked Punch will disappear from the menu after November 5, making this a limited Halloween experiment rather than a permanent addition.

The flavor will be available at participating Wingstop locations across the United States while supplies last. Orders can be placed through the Wingstop app or website once the promotion begins.
