Hidden Valley has decided that your salad needs a Halloween costume.
The company has launched Spooky Ranch, a limited-edition version of its Original Ranch that swaps the familiar white dressing for a decidedly more Halloween-friendly shade of black. It’s Hidden Valley’s first seasonal product, and the dressing comes packaged in a glow-in-the-dark bottle for good measure.
Despite its appearance, this isn’t a new ranch flavor. Hidden Valley says the dressing retains the familiar flavor of its Original Ranch, with the black color coming from fruit juice and cocoa powder. Spooky Ranch contains no artificial flavors and is also gluten-free.
That means you can effectively turn just about anything you normally cover in ranch black for October. Hidden Valley is pitching it for Halloween party snacks and pizza in particular, noting that Halloween is the biggest pizza holiday of the year. We’re guessing chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, vegetables and anything else destined for a bowl of ranch are fair game, too.
“Spooky Ranch takes everything fans love about Original Ranch and adds a little Halloween magic,” Hidden Valley vice president of marketing Stacy Stokes said in announcing the release. “With a haunting hue and glow-in-the-dark packaging, this twist on the flavor you love is the perfect way to bring some frightful fun to your favorite costume parties and fall festivities this Halloween season.”
It’s a simple gimmick, but turning one of the most recognizable condiments in the country jet black is exactly the kind of unnecessary Halloween transformation we can get behind. The glow-in-the-dark packaging should also make the bottle a little harder to lose once somebody turns off the lights at the Halloween party.
Hidden Valley Spooky Ranch is available now exclusively at Walmart for $3.97 per bottle. Like most things worth eating during spooky season, it’s only sticking around for a limited time and will be available while supplies last.
