Devil’s Night just got a little more mischievous. If you don’t have anything to do on Halloween Eve, you do now. It’s time to go trick or treating with Sydney and all her high school pals as we revisit one of the greatest meta-slashers of all-time.
“What’s your favorite scary movie?” Like I even have to wait for your answer. You’re probably screaming it in my face as we speak. Thirty years after Ghostface first terrorized Woodsboro, horror fans can answer that question for themselves on the big screen once again. Tickets are now on sale for the 30th anniversary theatrical re-release of Wes Craven’s Scream, which returns to theaters October 30.
Cinemark announced the ticket sales on October 13, inviting fans to celebrate the anniversary with a theatrical screening of the 1996 slasher. The re-release is also listed through Regal, although showtimes and availability will vary by location. Fans can check participating theaters and find available screenings through Fandango.
Written by Kevin Williamson and directed by Craven, Scream changed the slasher game by making its characters just as familiar with horror movie rules as the audience watching them. Neve Campbell stars as Sidney Prescott, a teenager whose life becomes a nightmare when a masked killer begins targeting her and her friends. Courteney Cox plays ambitious reporter Gale Weathers, while David Arquette appears as Woodsboro deputy Dewey Riley.
The cast also includes Skeet Ulrich, Rose McGowan, Jamie Kennedy and Matthew Lillard. The movie’s mix of sharp comedy, slasher violence and whodunit mystery helped turn it into a horror landmark, launching a franchise that has continued across sequels and generations of Ghostface victims.
The October 30 screening gives longtime fans an opportunity to revisit the original in a theater, while younger horror fans can experience the movie that helped reshape the genre on the big screen for the first time. And with Halloween just around the corner, the timing is pretty much perfect for a return trip to Woodsboro.
The theatrical re-release isn’t the only way to mark the milestone. As we previously reported, Scream is also getting a special 30th anniversary collector’s set, an Amazon-exclusive release arriving December 15. The set includes the movie in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and digital formats, alongside a collection of memorabilia built around the film’s most infamous phone call.
Among the collectibles is a replica of Casey Becker’s cordless phone, designed to play memorable quotes from the movie. The set also includes a Woodsboro Police Department case folder and other pieces of evidence inspired by the investigation into the original Ghostface murders. Horror collectors looking to bring a little Woodsboro into their homes can find more details in our full coverage of the Scream 30th anniversary collector’s set.
For now, fans who want to see Sidney and Ghostface face off on the big screen again can start checking local listings. Tickets are on sale through participating theaters for the October 30 anniversary event, so make sure you check your local cinema before making plans.
Just remember: if the phone rings, you might want to let it go to voicemail.
