Sam is celebrating Halloween with some familiar faces, and apparently, the party doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. A new video titled “Happy Halloween from Sam & Friends” brings the Trick ’r Treat icon together with some of horror’s most recognizable monsters for a spooky little dance party.
The greeting-card-style video opens with an hourglass filled with candy corn instead of sand before introducing Sam and his guests. The Wolfman, Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, the Mummy, and a witch are all there, joining a gathering filled with ghosts and other Halloween decorations.
Cherished horror icons aren’t the only ones getting a party invite this year, but Sam is clearly the host.
The soundtrack is a disco version of the theme from Friday the 13th Part 3, giving the monster gathering an appropriately goofy soundtrack. It’s a playful change of pace for Jason Voorhees’ familiar musical territory, especially with Sam and his friends dancing along. There’s no elaborate story or new chapter in Sam’s adventures here. It’s simply a Halloween greeting featuring the little trick-or-treater enjoying the holiday with his fellow creatures of the night.
The video is another way to keep Sam in the Halloween spotlight as part of Sam: The Soul of Halloween, the multimedia art project celebrating the character’s history and inviting different artists and creators to put their own spin on him. The project has already produced new animated work, including Trent Shy’s handmade stop-motion short Sam’s Harvest, along with the recent Season’s Greetings 2: Mischief Night trailer from Michael Dougherty.
