If your October plans involve spending as much time as possible in a dark theater watching horror movies, Regal Cinemas has you covered every night of the month.
Regal’s 31 Screams on Screen returns for 2026 with a different horror movie playing every day from October 1 through Halloween. Tickets are just $7.99 for each screening, and this year the theater chain has brought James Wan, Nia DaCosta and Curry Barker aboard to select some of the movies joining the month-long lineup.
There are some great opportunities here to revisit movies that don’t make it back to theaters very often. The month opens with Osgood Perkins’ The Blackcoat’s Daughter on October 1, followed by The Shining, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, The Conjuring and Poltergeist. Later weeks bring everything from In the Mouth of Madness and Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer to Scream 2, Evil Dead, The Blair Witch Project and Christine. The whole thing appropriately wraps up with John Carpenter’s Halloween on October 30 and Trick ’r Treat on Halloween night.
A few dates are essentially double features. October 16 pairs Bernard Rose’s original 1992 Candyman with DaCosta’s 2021 Candyman, while October 18 offers both the original A Nightmare on Elm Street and A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Curry Barker’s Obsession will also receive a separate 4DX screening on October 14 alongside Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, though Regal notes that premium-format rereleases aren’t included in the $7.99 promotional pricing.
The filmmaker selections are a fun addition this year, particularly because they aren’t simply lists of the most obvious horror classics. James Wan picked Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Drag Me to Hell, The Blob and Constantine. Nia DaCosta chose The Conjuring, The Thing, the original Candyman and It Follows. Barker went with Poltergeist, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, A Nightmare on Elm Street and the director’s cut of Midsommar.
“I’m so excited to share just a few of my favorite horror films; movies that have, in one way or another, stuck with me over the years,” DaCosta said of her selections. She noted that she never had the chance to see either The Thing or Candyman theatrically and is looking forward to finally seeing both on the big screen.
Barker’s selections are particularly interesting in light of where his career is headed. The Obsession filmmaker is set to direct a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, making his choice of Hooper’s 1974 original an especially appropriate one. “Films like these are a big part of why I wanted to become a filmmaker,” Barker said.
Regal is also making room for younger horror fans throughout the month. Weekend family matinees include Monster House, Goosebumps, The Monster Squad, The Addams Family and The House with a Clock in Its Walls, with The Nightmare Before Christmas returning each weekend in October.
