Do you and your partner like long, slow walks? Does that sound like the perfect Valentine’s Day date night? Then, boy, do I have a movie for you. It was just announced that In a Violent Nature: Part 2 has an official release date. And if Johnny starts walking right now, maybe he’ll be here in time for his own return party.
In a Violent Nature is definitely an acquired taste. It’s part of the ascended horror genre. Elevated slash and gore is just code for artsy-fartsy in my book. But there were some great kills in the original, even if it was a trek to get there.
IndieWire first reported the Valentine’s Weekend release date following the announcement at New York Comic Con, where In a Violent Nature star Ry Barrett made a surprise appearance during Shudder’s panel to reveal when he’d be returning as the franchise’s masked killer, Johnny. Shudder and Independent Film Company (IFC Films) are bringing the sequel exclusively to theaters.
“Forget roses and chocolates. If your crush loves horror movies, Johnny has a much bloodier plan for Valentine’s Day weekend. In a Violent Nature: Part 2 will slash its way into theaters on February 12, 2027, giving horror fans the perfect excuse to make their next romantic outing a little more murderous.”
This hugely anticipated sequel follows the events of the 2024 slasher, which turned the usual horror formula on its head by following the killer rather than his victims. Instead of spending the entire movie running from a hulking masked murderer, audiences got to lumber through the woods alongside Johnny as he went about his grisly business. It was an unusual approach that helped the independent horror film stand out in a crowded slasher market.
For In a Violent Nature: Part 2, Johnny is heading to summer camp. The sequel picks up immediately after the first film, following the killer as he arrives at a camp where a young outcast is forced to spend the night with his counselor sister and her friends during their annual end-of-season party. Sounds like somebody’s holiday plans are about to go horribly wrong.
Chris Nash, who wrote and directed the original, returns to write the sequel and co-directs with Nate Wilson. The follow-up promises to expand Johnny’s story while putting a fresh group of unfortunate campers in his path.
The sequel already had its world premiere as a secret screening at Fantastic Fest in September, giving festival audiences an early look at Johnny’s next round of mayhem ahead of its theatrical release.
With February 12 landing just two days before Valentine’s Day, the timing feels tailor-made for horror-loving couples. Why settle for a candlelit dinner when you can spend the evening watching a masked killer turn a summer camp into a nightmare? And if your crush makes it through the movie without hiding behind your shoulder, you’ll know they’re a keeper.
Just remember to pick someone who appreciates a little gore with their romance. Johnny probably isn’t the kind of guy you want showing up with flowers. He’ll probably just take them and shove them through your ribcage. Me, personally? I won’t be doing Valentine’s this year, because the love of my life, my little pal Flexi, passes earlier his year. So I’ll probably fly solo to Remain, that wild supernatural thriller from M. Night Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks. These are the only two new releases coming out for the holiday. Why is Hollywood only giving us scares? Shouldn’t there be at least one romantic framed in there somewhere? Come on, Hollywood. Do better.
