Parker Posey Packs Her Pillow for Blumhouse‘s Ultimate ‘Sleepover’ Nightmare

Sleepover Parker Posey

Parker Posey is getting ready for the ultimate all-night terror party, but don’t expect anyone to be passing around a flashlight to tell ghost stories. The Scream 3 and The White Lotus star is returning to horror in Sleepover, a new Blumhouse-Atomic Monster production directed by Jacob Chase. Universal Pictures will release the film in theaters on October 8, 2027.

First reported by Variety, Sleepover is being described as a “quintessential sleepover nightmare.” That certainly leaves plenty of room for the imagination, although plot details are being kept under wraps for now. The film is based on an original short story by Bryce McGuire, who co-wrote the screenplay with Chase.

Jason Blum is producing, with Chase, McGuire, and Bea Sequeira serving as executive producers. The project is a Cinescape Entertainment production presented by Universal and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.

Chase is already familiar with Blumhouse’s brand of horror. He directed Come Play, the supernatural thriller expanded from his own short film Larry, and recently directed Insidious: Out of the Further, the next installment in the long-running horror franchise. Teaming up with McGuire, who co-wrote Night Swim, gives Sleepover another filmmaker with experience turning an everyday situation into a supernatural terror-thon.

Posey, meanwhile, has a memorable history with genre fans. She played Jennifer Jolie in Wes Craven’s Scream 3, the actress caught up in the latest round of Ghostface murders. Her more recent work includes a prominent role in the third season of The White Lotus, but Sleepover will bring her back to the genre that helped deliver one of her most recognizable big-screen appearances.

With a title like Sleepover, the possibilities range from childhood fears gone horribly wrong to the sort of night that makes you want to sleep with every light in the house switched on. That’s speculation for now, of course, since the filmmakers haven’t revealed the actual story. Who knows, Parker could be playing the Mom chaperon to a bunch of young girls, or maybe she is reuniting with some old friends. Anything is possible when it comes to Blumhouse. Just don’t expect it to be too weird, I mean, it’s no A24 movie.

Universal has planted its flag on October 8, 2027, for the theatrical release. Until more details arrive, maybe think twice before accepting an invitation to stay the night. Especially at my house. I’m living alone in a camper with the ghost of my bitey dog. Maybe Parker can star in an adaptation of that next?
