All signs currently point to Jennifer’s Body being exhumed and reanimated as a true legacy sequel. The project is a Disney production, and several respected sources say it’ll begin shooting in Vancouver this Halloween season. Perfect timing for all involved if you ask me.
So what are the cold hard facts in reanimating this melting corpsicle? I dug deep to find some pretty interesting answers. I think fans of the original are going to be quite happy very soon.
I wanted to love Jennifer’s Body the first time I saw it, but it took several viewings and a lot of mileage before I truly became a fan of what director Karyn Kusama, writer Diablo Cody and their amazing cast had sold to the masses. It’s like one of those weirder Skating Polly songs that you must listen to on repeat before it truly becomes the earworm its creators always intended to unleash into the wild.
This perennial Halloween favorite is layered like an onion, and perhaps I was a bit too dim to truly understand all the nuances way back when it originally hit theaters. But now, today, here in the back half of the roaring ‘20s? I think I’m ready to endure whatever a sequel has to give me, knowing it’ll probably devour me from the inside out.
Sure, it took 17 years, but Jennifer’s Body 2 finally, truly, really does appear to be moving from long-discussed sequel into actual production. And it’ll be happening in some familiar stomping grounds around original filming location Vancouver.
The sequel to Karyn Kusama and Diablo Cody’s 2009 horror cult classic has been in various stages of development for years. Things changed considerably in 2026. Cody has written the screenplay with Kusama attached to return as director. It was Dread Central that exclusively confirmed Megan Fox is reprising her role as Jennifer.
Production Weekly did Brad’s site one better, listing the movie for an October 2026 shoot in Vancouver. And this is when everyone got super excited, squealing like a slumber party that just sat through the original for the first time.
There is still one important catch: 20th Century Studios has not officially announced the sequel or publicly confirmed a production start date. Dread Central has, however, confirmed that the project is a Disney production, although its eventual distribution plans remain unclear. The original was one of Fox Atomic’s final movie releases, but Fox’s youth-focused specialty label folded like a Halloween party table before the movie could even hit theaters. So it’ll be interesting to see if they resurrect the Fox Atomic logo, too, just for the nostalgia bait of it all.
So, let’s be Crystal Lake clear. Yes, for all intents and purposes, Jennifer’s Body 2 is looking considerably more real than it did a year ago. But there are still a few pieces of the puzzle that haven’t been officially locked down.
Who Is Returning for Jennifer’s Body 2?
Megan Fox is the biggest piece of this puzzle. It was reported in July that Fox’s return as Jennifer Check had been 100% confirmed. The high school cheerleader who was transformed into a flesh-eating succubus in the original movie is going to walk these cold lonely Vancouver streets looking for more fresh victims very soon.
That original confirmation from Dread Central is particularly important because Amanda Seyfried previously said she would not make a sequel without Fox by her side. During a 2025 Variety Actors on Actors conversation with Adam Brody, Seyfried confirmed that another Jennifer’s Body was being made, and she made it clear that Fox’s involvement was a condition of her own.
Seyfried’s return, however, has not been officially confirmed. Production Weekly has listed her alongside Fox, and Phantasmag reported that both original stars are returning, but it was later specifically noted that there is still no official word that Seyfried has signed on. For now, Needy’s return belongs in the expected rather than confirmed column.
Kusama’s return is on firmer ground. It’s been reported that she’ll direct the sequel from Cody’s screenplay, bringing the original director and writer back together for the first time on a Jennifer’s Body movie since 2009.
Diablo Cody Has Already Written the Sequel
This isn’t a case of someone simply pitching another Jennifer’s Body story and hoping a studio bites. Diablo Cody has been actively writing the sequel throughout 2026, and she has already discussed what makes this one different from a conventional follow-up.

Cody told Bloody Disgusting that the sequel is heavily influenced by the way audiences rediscovered the original movie years after its release. She described the script as a response to that unexpected cult following and said the experience of writing it felt unusually personal and freeing.
Producer Mason Novick, who has read the script, also told the site that it honors the first movie while making fun of it and addressing things that feel more current now than they could have in 2009.
That is particularly interesting considering what happened to Jennifer’s Body after its original theatrical release.
The movie was not a hit when it arrived in 2009. It eventually found a much larger and more passionate audience through home video, streaming and years of critical reappraisal. What was once treated as a failed horror-comedy starring Megan Fox has become one of the defining cult movies of its era.
That unlikely second life is essentially the reason Jennifer’s Body 2 exists.
When Will Jennifer’s Body 2 Film?
This is where things get especially interesting. All accounts point to Jennifer’s Body 2 as being scheduled to begin filming in October 2026, with Vancouver listed as the shooting location. Dread Central independently reported the October production window and Vancouver location in July.

That makes October the current production target, rather than an officially announced start date from the studio. Production schedules can change, and until Disney or 20th Century Studios makes a formal announcement, the date should be treated as a reported production schedule rather than a guaranteed one.
Still, an October listing is a significant step beyond where the movie stood earlier this year.
When Bloody Disgusting reported on the project in March, Cody was actively writing the script and the movie was still described as being in its early stages. At that point, no actors were officially attached. A few months later, Dread Central had confirmed Fox’s involvement and reported that Kusama was returning to direct.
That’s a pretty substantial jump.
What Will Jennifer’s Body 2 Be About?
That’s still a mystery. Neither Cody nor the filmmakers have revealed the plot, and there is no official synopsis for the sequel.

We do know that Cody has described the movie as a response to the rediscovery of the original Jennifer’s Body. That suggests the sequel will have something to say about the strange journey the first movie took from box-office disappointment to cult phenomenon, but exactly how that idea translates into Jennifer and Needy’s next chapter remains under wraps.
There is plenty to work with.
Jennifer died. Needy killed her. Needy died too, at least temporarily. The original movie’s supernatural rules leave plenty of room for Cody and Kusama to find a way back into that world without simply pretending the events of the first movie didn’t happen.
As for Adam Brody, there is currently no indication that he is returning as Nikolai Wolf. During his Variety conversation with Seyfried, Brody said he had not been contacted about the sequel. Seyfried jokingly suggested he could return as the Devil, but she also acknowledged that she didn’t actually know what Cody had planned.
So don’t start counting down to a Low Shoulder reunion just yet.
When Will Jennifer’s Body 2 Be Released?
There is no release date for Jennifer’s Body 2 at this time. If the reported October production schedule holds, a 2027 release would be the earliest reasonable window, but there is nothing official to support a specific date or even a particular season. Some reports have speculated about a Halloween 2027 release, but that remains speculation rather than announced information.

For now, the important date is October 2026, when the movie is reportedly scheduled to begin filming in Vancouver.
That brings us to the biggest question surrounding the sequel: after 17 years of talking about it, are Jennifer and Needy finally coming back? And what does that relationship look like in 2026? The social climate has changed a lot in 17 years. I know I’m ready for whatever this turns out to be.
What we do know is that Diablo Cody has written the sequel, Karyn Kusama is attached to direct, Megan Fox is confirmed to return, and an October Vancouver shoot is listed by Production Weekly.
That’s a heck of a lot more than we had when this was just a sequel fans kept asking for.
