Linda Cardellini has shared the opening scene from Peacock’s upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake, offering the first extended look at her version of Pamela Voorhees.
The clip opens with Pamela already in rough shape, visibly shaken as she works to remove a tooth lodged in her knuckle. There isn’t much explanation for how she got there, but the scene immediately establishes a tense tone and gives Cardellini plenty to do before the larger story even begins.
Crystal Lake takes place years before the events of the original Friday the 13th and centers on Pamela nearly a year after the death of her young son Jason. Still dealing with that loss, she finds herself pulled into a new mystery when two strangers arrive at her door and begin asking questions about her past.
Cardellini leads the series as Pamela, with Callum Vinson playing a young Jason Voorhees. Rather than starting with the hockey-masked killer audiences know from the later films, Crystal Lake goes back to the Voorhees family and the events that helped shape the mythology surrounding Camp Crystal Lake.
Brad Caleb Kane serves as showrunner on the series, which is set during the 1970s. The cast also includes William Catlett, Cameron Scoggins, Devin Kessler, Gwendolyn Sundstrom, Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch, Christopher Denham, Nancy Nagrant and Phoenix Parnevik.
The series also brings back a familiar name from the original Friday the 13th. Composer Harry Manfredini created new music for the opening title sequence, continuing his long connection to the franchise.
Cardellini posted the opening scene to Instagram ahead of the premiere, giving fans a chance to see how the series introduces Pamela before the first episode arrives.
All episodes of Crystal Lake premiere October 15 exclusively on Peacock.
