‘Crystal Lake’ Episode Titles Pay Tribute to Original ‘Friday the 13th’ Franchise Sequels

Crystal Lake VHS Episode Titles

Peacock is getting ready to send horror fans back to the infamous stomping grounds of iconic slasher Jason Voorhees, with the official episode titles for Crystal Lake revealing just how much the new horror series really is a love letter to Friday the 13th. The streamer has confirmed the titles for all eight episodes, with several directly referencing the franchise’s classic sequels.

The A24-produced prequel premieres October 15 on Peacock, with all eight episodes dropping at once. According to Bloody Disgusting, the season has a combined runtime of 6 hours and 37 minutes, making it a substantial binge for anyone ready to spend the day with Pamela and her son. This is like one giant all-new Friday the 13th movie, which fans have been demanding for years.

Fans of the VHS aesthetic will love the new artwork Peacock dropped on Jason Eve. I’ve always harbored a crush on Jason’s hot mom, and I’m stoked that Linda Cardellini, of Freaks and Geeks and Scooby-Doo fame has taken on the role.

Here are the episode titles and runtimes:

  • Episode 1: “Camp Crystal” (56 minutes)
  • Episode 2: “Part II” (53 minutes)
  • Episode 3: “Part III” (48 minutes)
  • Episode 4: “A New Beginning” (53 minutes)
  • Episode 5: “The New Blood” (49 minutes)
  • Episode 6: “Kill Them, Mommy” (44 minutes)
  • Episode 7: “Friday…” (51 minutes)
  • Episode 8: “The Final Chapter” (43 minutes)

The references will be immediately recognizable to longtime fans. Friday the 13th Part 2 and Friday the 13th Part III are represented directly, while A New Beginning, The New Blood, and The Final Chapter borrow their names from later entries in the series. “Friday…” is another clear nod to the franchise itself.

The title “Kill Them, Mommy” also sounds particularly fitting for a prequel focused on Pamela Voorhees, played by Linda Cardellini. The series explores the story surrounding Jason Voorhees’ drowning and the events that help set the original 1980 film in motion.

Betsy Palmer originated the character of Pam Voorhees in the original Friday the 13th movie way back in 1980. The lady was always so nice whenever I got a chance to hang out with her, promoting whatever Jason merch was coming out back in the early 2000s.

Betsy famously hated the Friday the 13th script, but a busted Mercedes has a funny way of changing your priorities. When her car broke down on the highway, a mechanic told her the repairs would cost $10,000. Suddenly, playing Pamela Voorhees for 10 days at $1,000 a day didn’t sound so bad. Palmer took the gig, bought herself a Volkswagen Scirocco, and accidentally became one of horror’s most unforgettable moms. Not a bad return on a car payment.

Sadly, Betsy passes away back in 2015. Her legacy will get the loving tribute it deserves in Crystal Lake.

Created by Brad Caleb Kane, this series revisits the franchise’s origins from Pamela’s perspective, putting Jason’s mother at the center of the story. The cast also includes William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom.

With all eight episodes arriving together, viewers won’t have to wait a week between installments to see how the story unfolds. Just be sure to pack enough snacks for a nearly seven-hour stay at camp. Jason’s not the only reason to be nervous about what happens after dark. Who knows who or what may be lurking in the bathroom during those much needed pee breaks.
