A new world. A new order. A new Blade Runner. And this time, humanity isn’t calling the shots.
Prime Video has unleashed a new full-length trailer for Blade Runner 2099, the upcoming limited series that takes the legendary sci-fi franchise into a future where the replicants have won. The new footage debuted at New York Comic Con, offering a closer look at a Los Angeles transformed by an uprising that has left humanity on the losing side of its own creation.
Set 50 years after the events of Blade Runner 2049, the eight-episode series arrives on Prime Video November 25. Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer lead the new chapter, which brings the franchise’s familiar questions about identity, mortality, and what makes us human into a world where the balance of power has dramatically shifted.
Yeoh plays Olwen, a replicant Blade Runner who knows she has only days left to live. Schafer stars as Cora, a human fugitive who has spent her life running and is now taking on a dangerous new identity. The unlikely partners join forces to track down a runaway replicant hiding a secret that could bring their already fragile society crashing down.
That’s a pretty significant change of scenery for a franchise built around the uneasy relationship between humans and the artificial beings they created. In the original Blade Runner, replicants were hunted and treated as disposable products. Now, the tables have turned. Humanity has lost the uprising, and replicants hold the power in Los Angeles, leaving humans struggling to find their place in a world they no longer control.
During the show’s New York Comic Con panel, showrunner Silka Luisa explained that the uprising hinted at in earlier installments has finally happened. The series picks up after that conflict, exploring what comes next when the creations surpass their creators and an entire species begins confronting the possibility that its time is running out.
That existential crisis has always been part of what makes Blade Runner more than just a gorgeous science-fiction nightmare. The original film gave us Roy Batty’s desperate struggle against his own mortality, while Blade Runner 2049expanded the franchise’s questions about memory, identity, and the possibility of a meaningful life. Now, Blade Runner 2099 is taking those ideas somewhere even more unsettling by asking what happens when humanity itself becomes the species fighting to survive.
And with Yeoh playing a replicant who can count her remaining days, the series has a particularly interesting way into that question. Olwen knows her time is almost up, while Cora is trying to escape a life that has forced her to become someone else. Their partnership could make for a very different kind of Blade Runner story, even as the mystery at its center threatens the new order.
The series comes from showrunner Silka Luisa, with original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott serving as an executive producer. Jonathan van Tulleken directed the first two episodes. Rather than simply bringing back familiar faces to revisit old conflicts, the series introduces new characters and pushes the franchise into a future where the old rules no longer apply.
The title Blade Runner 2099 might sound like another distant date on the franchise’s timeline, but the new trailer makes it clear that the world has changed in ways that go far beyond the passing of another half-century. The replicants are no longer the hunted outsiders, and humanity has a whole new set of problems to worry about.
All eight episodes of Blade Runner 2099 premiere on Prime Video November 25, 2026. A new world is waiting, and judging by this trailer, humanity might not be ready for it.
