Watch the First Footage of The Crypt Keeper’s Return for AMC’s FearFest

Crypt Keeper Footage AMC FearFest

The Crypt Keeper is officially back from the dead, and we finally get to see what his return to television looks and sounds like.

Bloody Disgusting has exclusively debuted the first trailer for AMC’s FearFest 2026, giving us our first footage of the newly resurrected Tales from the Crypt host in action. John Kassir is back behind that unmistakable voice, while Greg Nicotero and his team at KNB EFX have brought the Crypt Keeper himself back to life for a new generation.

The footage comes just over a week after AMC announced that The Crypt Keeper would serve as the official host of this year’s FearFest, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The character will appear in newly produced hosting segments throughout the month-long horror event, marking his first new material in 30 years.

For fans who remember the Crypt Keeper from HBO’s Tales from the Crypt, the new footage should look reassuringly familiar. AMC didn’t attempt to reinvent the character for his return. Nicotero and KNB EFX recreated the puppet originally designed by Kevin Yagher, retaining the decaying face, wild hair and gleefully gruesome personality that made him one of horror television’s most recognizable hosts.

Nicotero also directed the new FearFest segments, with Kassir returning to perform the voice he originated on Tales from the Crypt. Kassir voiced the Crypt Keeper throughout the anthology’s seven-season run from 1989 through 1996, along with several other appearances connected to the franchise.

“What a great honor and privilege to re-create this iconic character and get a chance to revisit some of his clever quips and puns with John Kassir again reprising his role,” Nicotero said when AMC first announced the character’s return.

The timing couldn’t be much better for Tales from the Crypt fans. In addition to putting the Crypt Keeper back in front of the camera, AMC has brought all seven seasons of the original series to AMC+ and Shudder. FearFest will also feature Tales from the Crypt programming as part of its 30th anniversary celebration.

FearFest begins October 1 across AMC and AMC+, with more than 650 hours of horror planned throughout the month.
