Curry Barker already has his next horror movie lined up following Obsession, and now we know when we’ll get to see it.
Focus Features has set Anything But Ghosts for theatrical release on May 7, 2027. Barker directs the horror-comedy and co-wrote the screenplay with his longtime collaborator Cooper Tomlinson, with the pair also starring together in the film. Violet McGraw, Chris Reinacher, Bryce Dallas Howard and Aaron Paul round out the cast.
The premise should be familiar territory for anyone who has watched Barker and Tomlinson’s work together. Anything But Ghosts follows a group of wannabe ghost hunters chasing fame who discover that their paranormal investigation isn’t quite as fake as they expected. Focus’ official logline promises that things eventually spiral “wildly and terrifyingly out of control.”
Barker and Tomlinson have spent years making comedy and horror together as the duo behind the YouTube channel That’s a Bad Idea. Tomlinson also appeared in Barker’s Milk & Serial and Obsession, and the two began working on Anything But Ghosts before Obsession became a theatrical hit. The film was already in production earlier this year, with Barker directing, co-writing and starring.
The project also keeps Barker working with several of the companies behind Obsession. Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Spooky Pictures and Divide/Conquer are producing Anything But Ghosts in association with Image Nation and That’s a Bad Idea. Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Jason Blum, Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath are producing, while Barker and Tomlinson are among the executive producers. Focus Features holds worldwide rights, with Universal Pictures International handling the film overseas.
Barker isn’t slowing down after Anything But Ghosts. He is also attached to direct A24’s new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, which is being developed as a reimagining of Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel’s 1974 original. Barker also has another original horror project set up with Universal and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, with details of that film currently being kept under wraps.
Anything But Ghosts arrives in theaters May 7, 2027.
